Meet our People: Godfrey Almeida, maths consultant
While working in the USA at a summer camp, I accidentally ended up teaching music – and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life to that date.
It was this experience that led me to apply to teach instead of working in a bank.
The role of consultant at the Harris Federation was an enticing one for me. I really love the idea of being able to affect the teaching, learning and results of a wide range of staff and students across multiple academies, and, as a result, directly improve the life chances of students. I have had valuable opportunities to work closely with SLT groups and Principals, which have helped me not only to develop my existing skills, but also to build new ones. These are opportunities that might not have been afforded to me had I not been a part of Harris.
A major part of my role is to improve results rapidly – and because this improvement can take many different forms, this can be a challenge. However, I’m lucky enough to be part of a very strong central consultant team, and when I don’t have the answer, I am able to draw on their experience and expertise across subject areas to help me find one.
If you are considering a career with Harris, it’s worth looking around the academies near to you to find your ideal teaching and learning environment. All our schools are very different, so take the time to speak to the principals and students to find the workplace that’s right for you.
At Harris, you can expect to find a highly motivated and professional atmosphere, with a huge amount of support and training to help you develop your career and many opportunities for progression across the network. Most importantly, you will be working in a place where students’ life chances are at the heart of what we do, which makes every effort worthwhile.
