Meet Dr Chris Tomlinson, Regional Director of Harris Secondary Academies
Harris Secondary Academies combine the traditional values of good manners, strong discipline and smart uniform with the best of modern teaching and technology. They follow a broad and balanced curriculum with a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
I joined the Harris Federation in September 2011 having been Executive Principal of two schools: Chafford Hundred Campus and Eltham Foundation School in South East London.
For me, the Harris Federation was – and remains – the leading academy group with the best network of academies in the country, and so I approached Lord Harris and Sir Dan Moynihan for the Chafford Hundred Campus and its staff and students to join the group. The school became Outstanding shortly after, in October 2011.
Eltham Green (now Harris Academy Greenwich) joined two years later, and, as part of Harris, was rated ‘Outstanding’ in 2014 for the first time in its 50 years of history.
As Regional Director, I now work across all the Federation’s secondary academies, which gives me the opportunity to be involved with a broad range and contrast of schools, students and staff across London. Every academy is different, but the collaborative spirit and ethos of high challenge and high support that they share is remarkable.
I am fully committed to the Harris Federation vision of transforming failing schools into outstanding academies, improving the life aspirations of young people and their communities. There is little more rewarding in a career than knowing that every day you go into work, you can and will make a difference to those who really need it.
Harris rewards those who work so hard to make a difference in our academies. Our staff have access to a huge range of opportunities, professional development and new avenues, helping them to fulfil their own ambitions and cementing the Federation’s position as a centre of excellence for education.
