Welcome to the Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance
Who are we?
The Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance is the professional development centre for the Harris Federation. We provide high-quality training to schools and academies in and around London.
The Harris Federation has a proven track record of transforming underperformance rapidly, with all of our secondary academies rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ and 80%+ rated ‘outstanding’ (Ofsted). This success is a result of talented and dedicated teachers, support staff and leadership teams working effectively within our academies. Our Teaching School Alliance is a superb way to share best practice and continue to develop and contribute to the wider educational system.
Our Teaching School Alliance
Our offer is aligned with the key areas of the Teaching School remit:
1. Initial teacher training (ITT)
We provide training to graduates and career changers, choosing to become teachers through our School Direct programme. Our programme has been carefully designed to integrate graduates into contrasting school settings, where they can develop the ability to teach and learn on the job.
2. Succession planning and talent management
Develop the leadership potential of staff in your school through the NPQ (National Professional Qualification) Leadership Curriculum. NPQs support aspiring leaders to become highly effective middle leaders, senior leaders, headteachers and confident executive leaders.
3. Continuing professional development (CPD)
Continually improve teaching practice using our robust CPD offer. We deliver Programmes for all teachers wanting to significantly improve the quality of their teaching.
4. School-to-school support
Take advantage of our wealth of expertise. Buy in one of our highly experienced practitioners or Specialist Leaders of Education to support the improvement of a department, curriculum focus or student outcomes in your school.
5. Specialist Leaders of Education
Deploy a Specialist Leader into your school to work with a middle or senior leader to help improve areas of your school and outcomes for your students. Or, apply to become a Specialist Leader of Education.
Two of our Academies have been awarded Teaching School status. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace was one of the first 100 Teaching Schools designated nationally in summer 2011 and was selected to offer Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) core training. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace is the most popular non-selective, non-faith school in the country because of the Academy’s third consecutive ‘outstanding’ (Ofsted 2014) track record. The Academy has a diverse intake with students coming from a range of London boroughs.
Harris Academy Chafford Hundred also became a designated Teaching School in spring 2013, partnering with Harris City Academy Crystal Palace to form the Alliance. Harris Academy Chafford Hundred has an ‘outstanding’ track record. Harris Academy Chafford Hundred is well known for delivering high-quality training. The Academy offers a range of professional development courses and improvement packages for other schools and school leaders. The Academy has won a number of awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and is an SSAT consultant school.
Both Teaching Schools work collaboratively with the rest of the Federation Academies to deliver the Teaching School offer, making up the Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance. We are keen to work with more schools to share tried and tested practices, designate Specialist Leaders of Education and offer high-quality training opportunities to teachers.
